Groovy Tries Balancing the Wobble Board
Day three of CALM Week was all about balance, which immediately made Groovy nervous. She was great at balancing sound, but not so great at balancing her actual body, and she wasn’t thrilled when the school counselor brought out foam balance beams and wobble boards.
Groovy chose the wobble board because it looked sturdy. It was not. The moment she stepped on it, the board wiggled like it was alive. Groovy froze, holding her arms out to steady herself while Rex whispered that she looked like a baby pterodactyl learning to walk. Groovy told him she heard that, even if she was focusing very hard on not falling.
The counselor encouraged her to breathe and keep her eyes on one spot. Groovy tried again, letting her weight settle slowly. The board still wobbled, but it wobbled less when she stopped fighting it. Tim hovered nearby with quiet encouragement, and Axe reminded her that balance takes practice, just as music does. Thumper cheered her on even though he nearly fell off his own wobble board at the same time.
Then Groovy found it. A steady moment. Her toes gripped the surface just right, and her center of gravity lined up with the ground beneath her. She felt taller, calmer, and almost proud.
The whole band clapped, and Groovy stepped down with a grin she tried to hide but couldn’t.

And so Groovy learned that balance is not about being perfect, but about trusting yourself long enough to find the spot where everything steadies.
