Luminara Joins the Bronto Brothers

A Bronto Brothers Short Story

The Bronto Brothers were halfway through a break when it happened.

Rex was pacing behind the stage, muttering rhymes under his breath.
Groovy sat on her amp, polishing her bass as if it were a priceless treasure.
Tim was trying to balance a cookie on the edge of his keyboard “for science.”

Then Axe Raptor froze.

“Do you guys hear that?” he asked.

They stopped.

At first, all they heard was the hum of the crowd and the commotion from a nearby snack cart. Then, mixed in between the noise, came something else.

Music

Soft. Shimmering. Barely there.
Like someone playing a secret just for themselves.

Axe Raptor peeked around the side of the stage.

Sitting beneath a tree, strumming an old guitar worn from playing, was a pale-colored dinosaur. She wasn’t performing or showing off. She just played, her head slightly down, with her fingers moving like they were telling a quiet story all their own.

“Hey,” Axe Raptor said. “Sounds great.”

The dinosaur stopped.

“Oh,” she said softly. “I… I only play a little. I didn’t mean to disrupt the show.”

“We’re on break,” he said with a smile. “You’re kinda stealing the show without even being on it.”

She blushed so faintly it was almost hard to see.

“I’m Luminara,” she said.

“Well, Luminara,” replied Axe. “You’ve got amazing timing. We’re short one harmony part.”

Luminara’s eyes widened.

“Oh, I couldn’t,” she said quickly. “I’m not really… a stage dinosaur.”

Axe Raptor shrugged.
“Neither was Raptor Rex, once.”

Raptor Rex cleared his throat and quickly replied, “That is untrue. I was born dramatic.”

Luminara laughed just a little, then caught herself and looked down.

Her tail twitched nervously. “I don’t think I’d be good in front of people,” she whispered.

Axe Raptor gently held out his guitar.

“Play one song with us. That’s all. Just one.”

Luminara hesitated.

Then she nodded.

“…Okay. One.”

The Song That Changed Everything

She stepped onto the stage like it might float away beneath her feet.

Rex glanced at her.
“What key?”

She paused, then smiled nervously.

“Let’s find out,” she said, and strummed a gentle chord.

Groovy laid down a smooth, steady bass line.
Axe Raptor followed with a riff.
Tim layered in a dreamy melody.

Then Luminara played.

Not loud or flashy, but perfect.

Luminara on Stage

Her harmony part resonated beautifully around Axe Raptor’s lead performance. The song suddenly felt bigger, softer, and stronger all at once.

When they finished, there was a quiet moment.

Then the crowd exploded into cheers, bouncing off the stage lights. Kids stomped. Grown-ups clapped. Someone shouted, “PLAY THAT AGAIN!”

Backstage, Groovy handed Luminara a drink and smiled.

“So… you gonna tell us you don’t belong now?”

Luminara shook her head slowly.

Axe Raptor tilted his guitar over his shoulder.

“Want to come back tomorrow?”

Her eyes widened.

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes,” Groovy said. “You’d be a great addition to the band. And besides, it’d be nice to have another girl to break up all these boys in the band.”

Luminara looked down at her hands, still trembling from playing.

Then she looked at the band.

“…Okay,” she said softly. “I’d really like that.”

Rex grinned.

“Well then, Bronto Brothers and Sister. Let’s make some noise.”

And the rest?

They say the rest is Bronto history.

But really, it was music finally finding its home.

Bonus: Why Fans Love Luminara

Luminara brings something special to the Bronto Brothers.
She plays the notes between the notes.
The soft sounds. The emotional parts.

She reminds kids that it’s okay to be quiet.
That you don’t have to shout to shine.
That sometimes the most powerful voice is the one that keeps playing.
