Which Dinosaur Was the Smartest? Meet Troodon – The Brainiest Dino Ever Discovered

Dinosaurs debating who is smartest

When the Bronto Brothers aren’t jamming on stage or surfing tidal waves, they usually do what best friends do: debate ridiculous questions about favorite dino-snacks or who makes the best root-beer float. But today it got intellectual, as they discussed who was the smartest dinosaur.

A Friendly Debate: The Smartest Dinosaur

“Hands down, the smartest dinosaur was the Troodon,” declared T-Rhythm, strumming a thoughtful chord on his guitar. “Big brain, sharp senses, and they probably had night vision! That’s rockstar-level fire!”

“Oh, please,” snorted Axe Raptor. “You only like Troodon because you like birds. Velociraptors take the crown. We’re fast, fierce, and clever.

“Fast and clever doesn’t mean wise,” said Groovaourus, plucking her bass. “The Pachycephalosaurus used its thick skull like a battering ram. Now that takes strategy -and nerve.”

“But that’s more muscle than brain,” chuckled Raptor Rex, the band’s front dino. “I read somewhere that brain-to-body ratio matters. I agree we T-Rhythm and think Troodon was tops. Their brains were big for their size, and like you said, Axe,  just like a bird!”

“Oh great,” muttered Thumper, tapping his drumsticks on a hollow log. “So what you’re saying is, chickens are the smartest dinos now?”

Are chickens from the smartest dinosaur ancestor?

Everyone roared with laughter.

Then Pterodactyl Tim swooped down from his sky perch. “Y’all are forgetting something important,” he said, wings folded coolly. “Intelligence isn’t just being smart. It’s how you use your smarts. Look at us. Playing music. Reading the crowd. Learning to work together. That’s dino-smart.”

The group nodded. He had a point. Again.

Being smart isn’t about being the best – it’s about being curious, creative, and kind.

Help decide who is the Smartest Dinosaur. The Bronto Brothers Want to Know!

Let’s take a Bronto-style look at the brainiest dinosaurs we know, and see who was the smartest dinosaur!

1. Troodon – The Brainiac Beast

Raptor Rex says: “This dino was the total package with great vision, sharp hearing, and a big brain for its size!”

Troodon had one of the largest brains of any dinosaur, with eyes that may have seen in the dark and a nose for details. Scientists think it may have even worked in teams. That’s some real rock-n-roll intelligence.

2. The Troodontids – The Smart Squad

Troodon was just one member of a super-smart dinosaur group called the Troodontids. These clever critters had stiff tails for balance, grabby hands, and sharp eyes perfect for chasing down lunch (or starting a band)!

Groovaourus says: “Smart and stylish. Sounds like my kinda dino!”

3. Deinonychus – The Pack Hunter Pro

Deinonychus ran on two legs like a feathered ninja and may have teamed up to hunt dinner. It had balance, speed, and brains to match, almost like a prehistoric ostrich with attitude!

T-Rhythm adds: “It probably knew all the cool dance moves.”

4. Velociraptor – Small But Sneaky

Made famous by the movies, Velociraptor wasn’t as big as Hollywood says, but it sure was smart. It had sharp claws, quick feet, and maybe even worked in teams.

Axe Raptor grins: “Speed, smarts, and style. That’s my dino.”

5. Oviraptor – The Nest Protector

Oviraptor wasn’t stealing eggs -it was guarding its own! This birdlike dinosaur probably cared for its babies, which takes smarts and love.

Thumper says: “Don’t judge a dino by its name, choo-choo train.”

6. Ornithomimus – The Ostrich Look-Alike

This speedy dino could run like the wind and had a brain that made it smarter than your average plant-eater. With feathers and fast feet, it likely stayed ahead of danger using brains and brawn.

7. Maiasaura – The Loving Mama Lizard

Her name means “Good Mother Lizard.” Fossils show that Maiasaura cared for her babies and maybe even lived in big family herds.

Groovaourus says: “Brains and heart? Total role model!”

8. Pachycephalosaurus – The Dome-Headed Thinker

Known for its super-thick skull, this dinosaur might’ve used headbutts for fun or to settle dinosaur disagreements. It also had a big brain and could’ve been a clever social creature.

T-Rhythm says: “Sounds like band practice when we can’t agree on a setlist!”

9. Iguanodon – The Thumb-Spiked Herbivore

With a pointy thumb for defense and a good-sized brain for an herbivore, Iguanodon might’ve been part of a big herd that worked together. Communication and teamwork? That’s clever stuff!

10. T. rex – The Senses King

Big teeth, strong legs, a huge nose — and yes, a reasonably big brain (for its size). T. rex could smell dinner from miles away and had excellent vision.

Raptor Rex roars: “Brains, brawn, and bite! What more could you want?”

So… Who’s the Smartest Dinosaur?

The Bronto Brothers say: It’s a tie!
Being smart isn’t just about brain size; it’s about how you use it.

Whether it’s teamwork, caring for family, or rocking out on stage…
Every dino has a little genius in them!
